What is Crack Sealing?
Crack sealing is the placement of specialized materials into cracks to prevent the intrusion of water and incompressible. Crack sealing should be applied to cracks 1/4″ or wider. Sealing these crack will extend the pavement life significantly by keeping the water out. Alligator cracking, spider cracks and cracking at the edge do not warrant crack sealing, because these areas of the asphalt have already failed.
Our crack sealing procedure is as follows. Clean cracks 1/4″ or wider by means of mechanical power wire wheel that removes dirt, loose debris, vegetation and prepares the crack walls with a clean surface to properly bond with the sealant. Fill and adjust crack depth with black beauty aggregate. Fill cracks with GemSeal Trowelable Crack filler.
*****Crack sealing does not make cracks disappear. Cracks will always still be visible. They will however be sealed to keep water out. Crack sealant can and sometimes do fall back into the crack before the cold pour sealant has time to set and bond. The crack will still be sealed only sunken at the surface.*****
What is Crack filling?
Crack filling is the placement of materials into cracks to reduce water intrusion and reinforce the adjacent pavement.
Our crack filling procedure is as follows. Clean all cracks by means of mechanical power wire wheel and blowers that removes dirt, loose debris, vegetation. Fill and level crack depth with black beauty aggregate for a flush surface to hold applied sealer.
